Session Suggestion: Technologies for Point-of-Care (PoC) Diagnostics

December 19th, 2009 by Arjang Hassibi

Hi all,

I want to suggest a session on “Technologies for Point-of-Care (PoC) Diagnostics”. I agree that it si too broad a topic (with advantages and disadvantages), but I think it fit nicely with the theme of the conference.

Conference Date Changed!

December 14th, 2009 by jackpo

Due to several requests, AMA & IEEE have changed the dates of the conference to avoid a conflict with religious holidays that would preclude some from attending the conference, we invite all who wish to attend join us 21-23 March 2010 (Sun-Tues).

Unfortunately, due to the date change, the hotel pricing has also gone up slightly. The new price will be $239.00 single/double. No deadline has been changed.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused to anyone!

Suggestions

Dear all!

Wonderful idea to merge AMA and IEEE in this conference !!!

Suggestion 1: here in Europe the main problem I see is that of establishing a sound business model behind any personalized medical technology and above all in the area of remote point of care management (typically patient’s home). I would suggest to stress the point of showing the business model, which may be different in different Countries. An Health Technology Assessment issue.

Suggestion 2: registering to this blog using Wordpress alone is too weak and naive, so it is prone to the attacks from Wordpress-bots. Delivering a password in automatic may be dangerous. At least a captcha is to be recommended! My impression is that this Wordpress blog is definitively too “open” to the public.

Dear Blair, David, and “dtpawluk”:
Thank you for the great suggestions. I would love to see the discussion going on these topics. David: you can drop me an email (pbonato@partners.org) if you want to discuss specifics of companies’ involvement. We welcome their contribution to the conference and trust that they will participate in the discussion of this important topic (individualize healthcare) in an open on “non-promotional” way.
Cheers,

Maintenance Concerns

December 9th, 2009 by bsteeves

Hello,

A possible topic for the conference: what are the largest dangers, hospitals  may be exposed to, without their knowledge,  with concerns toward unkept maintenance.  Usually due to maintenance unable to shutdown departments or systems for regular maintenance, due to clinical staff.

Ex.  Large UPS systems powering Data Centres, not being monitored by 24  hr staff, that power critical IT programs. Old power transfer switches, that could fail due to unkept maintenance, with people on ventilators.  Piping systems that fail and leak.  on and on.

Sadly I am unaware of any Engineering that is needed in this area, only more maintenance effort. Any suggestions are well received.

A Blog to Contribute to “Shape” the Conference

December 8th, 2009 by paolo

Dear Colleague:
This is the page we have set up so that you can let us know how we should “shape” the program of the conference. We want to hear from you about topics that you want to discuss at the conference, sessions that you want to participate in, and anything else you think that is worth mentioning to people interested in discussing the future of Individualized Healthcare. We trust that you share our tremendous interest for the transformation of the healthcare system that we are witnessing. What we want to achieve with this Blog and your participation in shaping the conference program is to allow you to actively contribute to the process of transformation of the healthcare system. We look forward to your contribution either by directly posting your ideas on the conference website blog or by participating in the discussion on Twitter. Either way, your messages will be posted on the conference website. We will be looking for your ideas and suggestions.
Best regard,
Paolo Bonato
